What is water-based paint?

The difference between water-based paint and Oil paint

water-based paint:

Waterborne is water-based paint. Energy-saving, environmental friendly, non-flammable, non-explosive, ultra-low emissions, low carbon health, etc., and full paint film, good flexibility, water resistance, wear resistance, aging resistance, yellowing resistance, easy to use, can be widely used in wood, metal, Industrial coating, plastic, glass, architectural surfaces and other materials. Water lacquer is gradually replacing the paint replacement product. The implementation of water-based coating is a revolution in the field of painting in China. Waterborne paint has the characteristics of green, energy saving, safety, and convenient construction. It has been rapidly developed in various countries of the world.

Oil paint:

Oil paint is mainly composed of main paint, curing agent, and thinner. The use ratio is generally 2:1:2, so at least half of the weight is volatile. Toxic substances in paints can be classified into solvents (formaldehyde, toluene, benzene, xylene, aldehydes, ketones, esters, ethers, aromatics, etc.) and heavy metals (lead, chromium, mercury, cadmium, etc.). The most harmful substances in the human body are formaldehyde, benzene, TVOC, etc. TVOC is the abbreviation of “Total Volatile Organic Compounds”. When VOC reaches a certain concentration, it can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and other symptoms, even when severe Convulsions, coma, and damage to the liver, kidneys, brain, and nervous system. What is even more deadly is that some toxic gases can evaporate for 3-5 years, some even as long as 15 years!
Oil paint is an important source of VOC, causing great pollution to the environment, causing great harm to the human body. At the same time, there are potential safety hazards such as flammability, explosiveness, etc. during construction, storage and transportation.

Different meaning

Water-based paint: paint that uses water as a diluent. It is characterized by energy conservation, environmental protection, non-inflammable, non-explosive, ultra-low emissions, and low carbon health.
Oil-based paints: Paints made of benzenes and other organic solvents as a diluent to decorate and protect objects. Benzene solvents are toxic, cause cancer, have high VOC emissions, are flammable and explosive, and pollute the environment.

Different diluents

Water-based paint: Only use clear water as a thinner.
Oil-based paints: Paints use highly toxic, contaminated, combustible organic solvents as diluents.

Different volatiles

Water-based paint: Most of the water is volatile.
Oil-based paint: Volatilization of organic solvents such as benzene.

Different construction requirements

Water-based paint: no special requirements, after simple training, you can brush, brush and repair extremely convenient, generally do not require professional labor supplies auxiliary, do not require special fire treatment. However, the water paint is relatively slow to dry at room temperature and is greatly affected by temperature and humidity.
Oil-based paint: Must be professionally trained and practised before it can be painted. It must be equipped with professional labor protection products, such as gas masks, etc. Fireworks must be prohibited.

Different environmental performance

Waterborne paint: low carbon, environmental protection, energy saving, low VOC emissions.
Oil paint: contains a lot of organic solvents, harming human health.

Other performance is different

Water-based paint: It is an emerging paint. The paint film is soft and thin, scratch resistance is poorer than paint, and the drying time is slow. However, the paint film has good flexibility and weather resistance.
Oil-based paint: The product has a mature process, full and hard paint film, strong scratch resistance, and short drying time.

Cost comparison

Waterborne paint: Diluted with water after dilution, no additional cost, and workers do not need to wear gas masks, no cost of labor insurance products, safety and environmental protection, no related sewage treatment costs, simple renovation construction, low construction cost, no need to transport and store in accordance with dangerous goods , saving related costs.
Oil-based paints: The late addition of thinners, wearing safety precautions, and the health check-up costs of workers, etc., are relatively expensive. For example, the dilution ratio is about 30%, and the diluent price is 8 yuan/kg, and the additional cost is increased by 2.4 yuan/kg. With the cost of transportation and storage of dangerous goods, the overall cost is high.

Dangerous goods grade

Water-based paint: Water-based paint is not a dangerous product and has no special storage requirements.
Oil-based paints: There are many types of oil-based paints. Most of them are hazardous chemicals and must be stored separately according to fire protection requirements.
